Paying your rent
Your rent pays for your home and the services we provide for you.
We know everyone is different, so we offer a range of flexible payment options for you to pay your rent in a way that suits you and your circumstances.
You can choose to pay your rent in any of the following ways - whether you have a home or a garage with us.
Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your rent because your bank or building society make the payments for you.
It's hassle free and you will also have the guarantee that you will receive an immediate refund in the unlikely event that an error is made.
When can I pay by Direct Debit?
You can choose to pay by Direct Debit every week on a Monday or select a date between the 1st and 28th of the month if you wish to pay by monthly instalments.
Payments are taken direct from your bank or building society account.
How do I set up a Direct Debit?
You can download and print our Direct Debit form (found at the bottom of this page) or request one by contacting us.
We need to receive your form at least 15 days before you want your first payment to come out.
Alternatively you can call us on 01302 862862 (option 2) and we’ll set it up while your on the phone.
Have your bank /building society details, including sort code and account number, ready before you call.
You will need to continue paying your rent until we confirm your payments are set up.
You can pay your rent online using a debit card on our online payment system.

Select the option for 'Housing Rents'.
You can also pay garage rent, home contents insurance and garden service charges.
You will need your debit card and your rent account number ready.
Your rent account number can be found on your rent payment card or rent statement.
You can pay your rent through a secure 24-hour phone line.

You will need your debit card and your rent account number ready when you call.
You can find your rent account number on your rent payment card or rent statement.
You can pay by cash or cheque at any Post Office.
Any cheques will need to be made payable to Post Office Counters Ltd.
Write your name, address and rent account number (found on your rent payment card or rent statement) on the back of the cheque.
You must have your rent payment card or a letter/rent statement with a barcode with you.
Payments will take two working days to reach your account.
If you don't have one, please contact us to request a rent payment card.
You can pay your rent at any shop that has the PayPoint sign displayed.
To use PayPoint you will need to pay by cash and have your rent payment card or a letter/rent statement with a barcode with you.
You will need to get and keep hold of the receipt in case of queries.
Payments take three working days to reach your account.
If you don't have one, please contact us to request a rent payment card.
How is my rent calculated?
The rent on your home is calculated using a rent formula which has been approved by the Government and used across the country.
The formula uses information such as number of bedrooms, the value of your property, average national rents and weekly earnings.
What should I do if I can’t pay my rent?
We know that circumstances may change and life happens. If you are struggling to pay your rent for any reason, it is vital that you contact us immediately and ask to speak to your Income Management Officer. Call us on 01302 862862 and select option two. You will be asked about your situation. If you can't pay all your rent we will aim to agree a manageable payment arrangement and advise on the benefits you may be entitled to, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support - as well as signposting to any other support that our partners may be able to help you with. Please don't ignore the problem. It is important that you understand the importance of paying your rent so you don't risk losing your home.
