We are proud to be supporting national Gas Safety Week which is taking place this week from 9-15 September 2024.

Gas Safety Week aims to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

The theme for 2024 is Checking – Every Check Counts. This means everything from checking that you know what to do if you have a gas emergency, to making sure that you let our gas engineers in to your home to carry out our annual gas safety checks which make sure your household is safe.

Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly and without warning, as you cannot see it, taste it or smell it.

We carry out annual checks on your co alarms and aim to change them within a 10-year cycle. If you think your CO alarm is not working correctly or faulty, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

By taking care of your gas appliances properly you are taking care of your home and your loved ones. No matter how big or small every check counts.

Here is a guide to some simple checks that you can do at home:

  • Check you have a current landlord gas safety record. As your landlord, we are required by law keep your gas pipework, flues and any appliances we have supplied in good condition. We arrange a gas safety check every year and then give you a record of the check within 28 days. Please let us into your home to carry out these safety checks when we contact you.
  • Check your knowledge. Remember the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse, and loss of consciousness. If you suspect carbon monoxide, get into fresh air immediately and call the gas emergency services for your area.
  • Check your carbon monoxide alarm. We install these in all our homes and you should regularly check yours by pressing the test button to make sure it is working properly.
  • Check gas appliances for any warning signs. Signs may include lazy yellow/orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance, a pilot light that keeps going out, too much condensation in the room, or error messages on the appliance’s control panel. If you spot any of these signs contact us.
